Atomic Dirt’s Mission:
To create innovative games that expand beloved worlds and use new ideas and technologies to break down barriers and bring more people together.
Atomic Dirt’s stance on AI in video games:
Exploring new technology can be fraught, so we wanted to share a clear POV on AI.
Empowering and elevating creative people,
not replacing them.
As a founder team who has personally made our livelihoods from art, writing, and performing music, we do not believe in or support replacing human beings and their livelihoods with gen AI. That's why we employ and pay a talented team of real human artists, developers, writers, and creative directors to work on our games. Everything you're seeing in our games was authored by human beings. Or, as our Art Director AJ says, "No AI was used. Just good ol' fashioned Organic Grass Fed human hands!”
Also, as you know, video games already leverage AI in their logic and gameplay systems. We believe technologies like LLMs have the potential to enable new kinds of gameplay. Exploring this particular use of AI is about harnessing technology to do things that would be impossible to do without it, not on a creative basis but on a functionality basis. And unlocking new kinds of games and genres will lead to more opportunities for everyone in our industry.
Ultimately, AI is a tool. And that tool can be used both for good and for harm. At Atomic Dirt, we believe we have a responsibility to understand the technology thoroughly so we can embrace what's good and eliminate the harm.
